At The Center for Visual Rehabilitation, we specialize in helping individuals cope with vision loss and maximize their potential to live independently.

We offer one of the most comprehensive visual rehabilitation programs in the country thanks to our state-of-the-art technology, expert staff and wonderful learning facilities, including adaptive computer training and a full kitchen. We even provide home visits to ensure safety and successful integration of the recommended low vision adaptations.

Our team of professionals includes a highly trained and experienced low vision optometrist and a specially trained occupational therapist to help patients maximize the use of their remaining vision. Meet Lind Stevens, low vision occupational therapist here at our clinic.

The team provides comprehensive low vision evaluations, scotoma (blind spot) awareness training and use of low vision aids to facilitate reading, writing and other activities of daily living. Rehabilitation is offered for individuals with stroke and other neurological conditions that create visual deficits. Referrals are welcome from all physicians, as well as ophthalmologist and optometrist.

One of the most active programs at our clinic is rehabilitation for driving and vision loss after having a stroke. This is very important in regaining your confidence and previous lifestyle activities.

Once you have been diagnosed with low vision and referred to our program, here’s what to expect:

First Visit (Two and One Half Hours)Dynavision training for field loss due to stroke.
A map of your remaining vision is developed, which guides our doctors and therapists to help you.

Your distance and reading vision is evaluated.

You’ll learn about the disease causing your vision loss and what you can do to minimize further risk. Also, the impact of vision loss, including depression, is discussed.

Tools and training techniques that are essential in helping you will be determined and a summary report will be sent to your eye doctor.

Second Visit (One Hour)
An Occupational Therapist (OT) evaluates your interests and skills so that an individualized training program can be developed.

Information on local and national resources that may enhance your quality of life is introduced.

Training Visits (Two Hours Each Visit)
Our expert occupational therapists work with you in the Center and at home to enable you to doClinic Location. We are on the 18th Floor the most with your remaining vision. We use your individual goals as a guide. Training may include:

  • Reading
  • Scotoma training – finding the area of your vision that will allow you to see the best
  • Crafts and hobbies
  • Cooking and other activities of daily living
  • Magnification tools
  • Lighting assessment and recommendations
  • Contrast enhancement
  • Glare control
  • Shopping
  • Recreational and community activities
